Death Angel (excerpt)

INT.NIGHT CLUB-NIGHT

A MONTH AGO: People dancing to loud music. A tall, pretty, young, white girl wearing a long, dark, wig, and dressed in a short straight dress arrives there and walks to the bar to order a drink. The young-looking barman winks at her and serves her the drink. She pays and picks up the glass to sip while looking at those dancing. They chat a few minutes and suddenly, she spots a young woman leaving the dance floor and she follows her leaving her glass at the bar.

ANGELA

A glass of whisky please.

BARMAN

(winks at her)

Ok honey, coming right up! Here your whisky.

ANGELA

(starts sipping while looking at the dancers)

Thanks.

BARMAN

You’re looking for a partner tonight?

ANGELA

(turns head to look at him)

Excuse me?

BARMAN

Do you need someone to dance with?

ANGELA

(fakes a soft smile at him)

No, I’m waiting for a friend. He’d soon be here.

BARMAN

Oh I see. By the way, I’m Steven.

ANGELA

Veronica. Nice to meet you.

BARMAN

My warmest pleasure baby, you’re a bomb!

ANGELA

(smiles and turns head to look at dancers)

Thanks.

Suddenly, she spots a young woman leaving the dance floor and she quickly puts down her glass and excuses herself.

ANGELA

Excuse me, I think he’s come.

BARMAN

Good, have a great night.

ANGELA

(says and walks quickly away)

You too.

Barman stares at her as she leaves but momentarily a group of male clients appear before him and he stops staring to serve them.

INT.LADIES WASHROOM-CONTINUE

The woman enters a toilet while Angela stands before a mirror at a sink combing her hair. A couple of women exit the room shortly afterwards leaving only Angela and the woman. As soon as they have left, she picks out a pair of slim gloves from her hand bag, put them on and brings out a large blue handkerchief and walks to the toilet where the woman entered and knocks softly.

1 VICTIM(O.S)

Use another one please.

Angela stands quietly behind the door, watching the entrance into the washroom and the toilet door. Suddenly, after 5 minutes, the woman unlocks the door and opens it to find Angela standing before it. She trembles a bit and Angela immediately covers her mouth with the handkerchief and pushes her into the closet and locks the door. 5 minutes later, she exits the room, clad in a below-knee dress and a short, black, curled hair.

EXT.STREET-CONTINUE

Angela puts the gloves and the long, black wig, and short dress into a large, black, rubbish-filled polythene sack in a dustbin and continues her journey on foot home.

INT.MAGDALENE’S HOME-LIVING ROOM-NIGHT

Angela arrives at the room and meets one of his brothers watching TV with a friend. She greets them cheerfully and attempts walking away when her brother calls her to introduce her to his friend.

BROTHER

Angie, this is Rob, a close friend of mine.

ROB

(rises off the sofa)

Nice to meet you.

ANGELA

(fakes a smile)

Hi, nice to meet you too, please excuse me I need to make a call.

ROB

Sure, feel free. Hope to see you later.

ANGELA

(says and walks hurriedly out of the room)

Yeah.

INT.BATH-CONTINUE

Angela washes down.

INT.ANGELA’S ROOM-CONTINUE

10 minutes later, she returns to the room dressed in a night gown. She turns on the light and straightens her bed then switches it off and lies down to sleep.

INT.LIVING ROOM-NIGHT

Tom, Angela’s brother turns off the set and exits the room with his friend.

EXT.MAGDALENE’S HOME-CONTINUE

Tom chats with Rob as he escorts him a few meters away.

ROB

Does she…have a boyfriend?

TOM

No, I don’t think so. She’s quite reserved: usually with her books, doesn’t go out much, doesn’t party or like parties, you know that kind of person.

ROB

I see but she’s gorgeous. I wish I could take her out one of these evenings. How do I tell her would she agree?

TOM

I don’t know man; you should thank your stars if she does. As far as I know, no man has been successful in winning her heart.

ROB

At 21?

TOM

(nods head and says)

Exactly.

INT.KITCHEN-DAY

It’s morning, 8 o’clock and Magdalene sits in a chair before the dinning table dressed in a short glittering black gown and her hair in a mess. Her head is bent over the table. Suddenly, Angela enters the room and calls her name sounding a bit surprised. She answers in a sleepy tone.

ANGELA

Mum?

MAGDALENE

(immediately lifts head and looks at her)

Hi! How are you?

ANGELA

Mum when did you arrive, this morning or yester night?

MAGDALENE

It doesn’t matter dear, what matters is that I got home safely. The party was good, very good. I met so many old friends and nice men too, actually it was a nice man, one not more.

ANGELA

Are you drunk mother?

MAGDALENE

No! No way I’m not drunk!

ANGELA

Then why are you talking in that tone.

MAGDALENE

(says and rises off her seat)

What tone? I’m a bit sleepy that’s all. Good night, I need to go to bed.

ANGELA

(watches her leave)

Ok. Sweet dreams.

Moments after she’s gone, Angela shakes her hand and opens the cupboard to pick a box of oats to make breakfast.

INT.MAGDALENE’S ROOM-DAY

Magdalene arrives at her bedroom, walks to the bed and drops down on it.

INT.POLICE DEPARTMENT-SERGEANT’S OFFICE-DAY

Sergeant Conrad Mctyre speaks with detective Sailor on the case.

DETECTIVE

Her blood test results showed no evidence of poisoning. Moreover, her internal organs seemed OK which rules out the possibility of an internal bleeding.

SERGEANT

So no traces of any chemical in her blood, no sign of an abuse, could it be she may have died of a natural cause?

DETECTIVE

It could be. Yet on the other hand, not every drug is detectable. Perhaps, she died of one of those.

SERGEANT

Ok, let’s assume she was injected with one of those undetectable drugs, what then was the motive for her death? Robbery?

DETECTIVE

Her phone and driver’s licence were found in her hand bag. It
